Coleman was a Lancashire resident born in the town of Blackpool. She studied at Arnold School in Blackpool. She was a headgirl and earned straight A grades in her A-Levels. When Coleman was asked about her Emmerdale character she stated that she regrets having not had an experience like the traditional one at university. Coleman was awarded her TV Choice Awards nomination for Best Actress. Steven Moffat announced at a Doctor Who press conference on 21 March that Coleman has replaced Karen Gillan as the companion of the Doctor since Arthur Darvill left the series, would be playing the role alongside Matt Smith. Moffat picked her to play the part because she was the most effective with Smith and could speak more rapidly than Smith. Eva is best known for her role in the role of Dr. Maria Santos on All My Children and as the detective Natalia Boa Vistas from CSI Miami. The former even earned her two nominations for the Daytime Emmy Awards as well as gave her the chance to explore her creativity in music. Eva is not only an actress, she is also a businesswoman and philanthropist. She has been married thrice and is the mother of a child from her previous husband.
